India’s MEA Strongly Rejects Speculation Linking PM Modi to Epstein Case as Baseless and Absurd

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has firmly dismissed speculation surrounding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name surfacing in connection with documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case. The remarks came in response to questions raised about apparent references found in newly unsealed court records linked to Epstein, the late American financier and convicted sex offender.

During a media briefing on Friday, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described the supposed association as “baseless” and “absurd.” Referring to the claims as “trashy ruminations by a convicted criminal,” Jaiswal emphasized that there is no factual basis to link the Indian Prime Minister to Epstein or his network. The MEA’s statement reflects a strong rebuttal to any implications or inferences made on social media or elsewhere suggesting a connection.

The controversy stems from documents that were recently made public as part of an ongoing legal process in the United States, including witness depositions and other material connected to Epstein’s associates. While these documents have implicated several high-profile individuals globally, the Indian government has underscored that any reference to Modi in the files lacks evidence or credibility, and may be the result of unverified or inaccurate testimony.

Jaiswal also underscored the need for discernment when dealing with information emerging from judicial files, particularly those tied to ongoing cases or those involving individuals with criminal histories. “This is absolutely untrue, baseless, and fake. We totally reject it,” he said.

The original report titled “Trashy ruminations by a convicted criminal: MEA dismisses PM Modi’s mention in Epstein files” was published by The Economic Times, and notes that officials have described the speculation as being rooted in unreliable, and possibly malicious, sources. Critics have also pointed out how the rapid circulation of such claims online risks damaging reputations and distracting from verified aspects of the legal investigation.

Observers note that the Indian government’s swift and unequivocal denial is aimed not only at quashing misinformation but also at reaffirming the Indian Prime Minister’s record amid growing global scrutiny of figures associated, or rumored to be associated, with Epstein.

As the broader legal proceedings in the Epstein case continue to unfold in the United States, attention remains sharply focused on how unsealed documents are interpreted and disseminated. In the case of Prime Minister Modi, Indian authorities have made it clear they see no cause for concern and believe efforts to link him to the matter are unfounded.
